Yes, blogger was a mess yesterday. I ended up posting the same post multiple times.

Good reason to not go to school – “On the day freshman and sophomores are taking the FCAT, any juniors or seniors that show up are stuck in the same class for four hours.”

Best Reason – You’re checking your son out of school to go see an Atlanta Braves Spring Training game at Disney’s Wide World of Sports Complex. Side note, I did this with my son when he was in sixth grade. We had second row, box seats on the first base line. Greg Maddox was pitching. He had retired 4 batters in a row when he gave up his first walk. On ball 4, Maddox said a “potty word” that was highly audible from our section. My son looked at me for guidance and this is what I said, “Son, Maddox should know better than to use that kind of language with youngsters in the stands. However, you know you have some darn good seats when you can hear the pitcher cuss.”

Funniest and Unbelievable – Can’t top Peggy’s comment.

Peggy, no apologies necessary! In fact you are the winner. You get to skip school one day because of your winning entry.

Schools in my area recently cancelled afternoon classes and sent kids home because bad weather was expected. (The same weather patterns existed that had created killer tornadoes just a few days before.) As it turned out, about the times classes were being dismissed, the warning sirens blared, and some kids were on school busses on their way home at a crucial time. Some of the schools brought the kids all back inside until the sirens stopped, then sent them home. Not a funny story.......just kind of interesting.

I need to pre-apologize to those who find my comment gross and offensive....I work with Elementary kiddos and they tend to report the facts without editing for content.
Sorry Randy!

The best reason not to go to school was when the train derailed and the chemicals spilled so they had to clear the area or everyone would turn into mutants. That lasted a week.

Daughter's school closed last year for a day. An April snow threatened to bring the trees down, and they are 150 years old.

No one was hurt, but they did cut down some of the trees.

My parents were both educators so there was never a good reason not to go to school. But once I got there...I didn't necessarily have to stay.

Wow! I was hardly able to get a response in due to the others trying to do the same!

Fried meat, melted cheese, and melted Idaho potatoes seems reason enough to miss school. When I was in grad school, I would often miss morning classes due to being out on Shoals Creek w/ father-in-law fishing. I always thought fishing was as good a reason as any.

In N.Alabama, they would cancel school for even a slight powdering of snow ... which I always thought a stupid reason to cancel school. Here in SoCal, they often keep the kids inside at lunch and recess and after school if the temps get into the 90's. That's being far too overprotective in my opinion. Kids just aren't as tough as they used to be. Maybe it has to do with all the fried meats, cheeses and fries??
