Homeless
It was a very different experience being driven to the airport knowing that we weren’t just going on vacation and our faithful driver would be there to pick us up again in a week.
We did make our flight and reached the first leg of our journey, a few days of rest in Wichita Falls, Texas. It has been a long time since setting foot on Texas soil. As we made the two hour drive from DFW to Wichita Falls I told the kids to look out the window and tell me what the saw. They replied "nothing." Exactly! Wide open spaces baby, wide open spaces.
Being in Texas we had to lunch at Sonic and I particularly enjoyed the Dr. Pepper with a splash of vanilla.
So as we were sitting around doing nothing yesterday afternoon I realized we were technically homeless. The lease on our new home does not begin until Friday and we moved out of our church supplied home in Arlington so for now, here in the Vacation Paradise of Texas (Wichita Falls) we are homeless. Cathy and Cohn may begin to suspect something if we are still here next week.
Ah, Texas.
Enjoy your stay. I bet you’re looking forward to getting into your new place. That will be fun.
We keep you in our prayers.
Never thought I’d be jealous of a homeless person in Wichita Falls, but I can’t think of a better place to be homeless than in the Lone Star State! Blow Dallas a kiss for me and enjoy your trip! You’re in our thoughts and prayers.
Maybe this leg through Texas is your personal purgatory … in spite of above comment by someone who actually likes Texas!
Wait a second. I lived in Vernon, TX for six years. Wichita Falls (50 miles away) was the city we went to to go to WalMart and to the movies, and most of our hospital visits. It wasn’t the prettiest place, but it had a beauty of its own – and that area of Texas was quail hunting heaven! – something I’ve missed ever since. Do you have family in Wichita Falls, or what takes you there?
Thank you for staying in touch as you cross the country. You know we can’t let you out of our sight!
I can think of places I’d rather be resting in than Texas, but I know you’re bound to be with friends and/or family. Being able to eat at Sonic is a plus. Does one exist in Arlington? Or did I just not recognize it? I think I saw a McDonald’s sign but no golden arches!
Oh, man, what is it with you and Sonic?
With our youth guy moving back to Virginia soon, we’re thinking a lot about how the places differ. He was looking forward to getting back to theWaffle House, the Cracker Barrel, and Hardee’s.
I said, “Huh?”
Steve, surely you jest! Are there really no Cracker Barrels in California? Hardee’s and Waffle House I can believe……….but Cracker Barrel????
Judy: I think Arizona is as far west as Cracker Barrel has come to date. Sad but true.
I better not tell my husband about this post. The mere mention of WF (I can’t even say it out loud) starts the self-soothing rocking and humming. Seems it is not a good place to move to in junior high – when you’re not a Texan. I’m sure it is much nicer now!…
Oh Randy, I’m so jealous.
# 1, you’re in Texas. I didn’t even get to go home for a visit before we moved from Shreveport to Alexandria.
#2, and more importantly, you can eat at Sonic! What’s the deal with DC? The closest Sonic is in Richmond. That’s nuts. Especially when the local stations keep showing their commercials.
Enjoy your “down time”. Sorry we didn’t have time to get to know ya’ll better before you had to move on.
