Up To My Elbows In It
Think of the scene in Christmas Vacation where cousin Eddy is dumping the waste from the RV into the sewer line.
That was descriptive of my joy last night.
The sewer backed up last night (fortunately out in the yard and not in the house) from the clean out to the main line.
I worked for a couple of hours with a hose and a snake trying to get the drain unplugged and let me just say there is nothing quite like . . . actually maybe I won’t say it.
Of course it was after hours so the roto rooter was going to be expensive (don’t these things always happen at night).
The added bonus is we have house guests, a certain family from le Suisse.
When the roto man called at 9PM saying he was running behind we suggested he just wait and come first thing in the morning (which of course also means whenever he feels like it).
But at lease it will save us the $150 “emergency” service fee.
When do you have plumbing / sewer issues that is not an emergency?
Having just gone through 20 inches of rain from T.S. Fay and watching its effects on our septic tank, I’ll alter a saying the kids like to say:
I “smell” ya brother.
Every time we had a large service at the mortuary, our sewer system backed up! Having people wade through water to get out of the restroom is not a good way to advertise a mortuary! (Having it back up during an embalming is another issue altogether!) We finally discovered (after using the very expensive camera in the hole technology) that the problem was a root just about on the property line so there was a dispute between us and property management people (who get a ton of our money each year). The city was finally called out and the real problem was not a root (so much for the expensive camera technology) but a broken drain line caused by the city in an earlier “repair”. The good news is they had to foot the bill.
You are right, though, sewer problems always happen at night and more often than not when you have guests!
We had problems with our septic system when we first moved into our house over a year ago. Nothing is worse than things backing up when you are taking a shower!
Our emergency was temporarily fixed late in the night. Eventually we got our system hooked up to the city line.
eewwww, my friend, eewww! eewww! EEWWW!!!
Well, we once stayed with family and the first thing my brother-in-law said to me when we got back to his place was: We can’t flush the toilets, and if you need to take care of business, there’s a McDonald’s down the way… Wait a second. That happened last night…
Ditto Sandra! I don’t even want to think about the images this conjures up!!
