View From The Pew

We’ve had Sunday’s that rocked (as much as a gasping mainline Church of Christ can rock) and we’ve had Sunday’s that bombed (as much as a gasping mainline Church of Christ can bomb).

Last Sunday was not a highlight for us a community of worshipers gathering together to celebrate the God creates, the Savior who redeems and the Spirit who leads.

What made the difference?

Was it the singing?  Was it the preaching?  Was it the expectation of the people?  Was it just my perception?

It really seemed like God decided to attend church somewhere else and if he decides to make that a habit it is quite the frightening scenario.

    Randy -

It seems to me the most active churches are ALL outside the CofC and/or in the blog community . . . even in my basically Christian Facebook community. It’s astounding to me!

I happen to have an insider link to a very active (and well known) CofC in Abilene (where I just was for 9 days). If you’re interested, let me know. Seriously!

Cheers! And many blessings to each of you today!

Maybe it’s because there are some songs that just sound better with musical instruments (sorry for singing the sour notes on that last number). Or maybe it was because there was a business meeting after services (can hamper the mood). I know that God dwells among us, we just need to let Him dwell within us and let Him do his work.

Been there and done that for sure. There were those Sundays at Long Beach and it was so obvious to many of us. Fortunately, they seemed few and far between. God seemed absent from the Israelites for over 400 years! But He was there all the time.
