Abraham

Working through the life of Abraham with our small groups and in our message times.

I continue to marvel how the grown up versions of these stories (great men and women of faith) are far different (appropriately so) from the children’s version some of us heard growing up.

And then it dawned on me that few have transitioned from one version to another.

I wonder if the uncensored life of Abraham were made into a movie what the rating would be. That goes for the rest of the Biblical accounts.

graphiteman speak the truth or just imagine if a movie were made about our own lives without the grace and the power of the blood of Jesus.

What? Your church isn’t filled with people actually maturing from to maturity in their faith? I thought that was a given in “our” brotherhood. Of course it’s very subjective, but I can probably count on my fingers the people I’ve known in 30 years of preaching who actually showed evidence of spiritual maturity. Most of them came from no church background and experienced a true transformation of the heart.

That didn’t make sense. It should have read: “Your church isn’t filled with people actually maturing from infancy to maturity in their faith?” Sheesh … these Macs.

i wonder if some of that progression in the story, changing it from the fractional to the more complex can be addressed in the revisiting these stories as we age through the classes at church. i’m sure there is a creative and useful way of doing this.
also, i sometimes wonder if we underestimate what children are capable of hearing/grasping.
i took a class on human development and the professor’s (doctor) specialty was spiritual development.. and there was a cool outline where spiritual development was paralleled to the chart on human cognitive development..and he talked about how some things can inhibit maturity spiritual, just as things inhibit cognitive growth. it was really interesting.
