Well, it’s official. We moved from one softball organization to another here in town.
I’ll spare you the boring details but we made the decision based on a variety of factors.
I’ll still be coaching
Tryouts were held this past Saturday and following the workout the head of the organization called everyone together (about 20 coaches and 60 girls) and explained that we end every workout by taking a knee, holding hands and saying a prayer.
He said the person praying ends the prayer with “can I get an . . .” and we all are to respond “Amen.”
I know Greg will be disappointed in me that I didn’t immediately point out that real prayers are supposed to end “in Jesus’ name”.
I just reasoned that would be the difference between an athletic prayer and a church prayer.
We made it through the memorial service for a young man who died under tragic circumstances.
The family and friends were supported by so many who came to be with them in that hour of remembrance.
My heart goes out to the family but is still heavy for the young son of the deceased.
A kid should never attend the funeral of his father.
Jorge Munoz only missed 1 day in the last five years (stuck in a snow storm) helping feed hungry people.
Amazing that he did most of this in a tiny apartment with a meager salary.

The Twilight saga continued last night with the midnight opening of New Moon.
If a teenage girl is a member of your family you probably already knew this.
La Esposa has been receiving correspondence from AARP and other age targeted advertisers.
She believes someone is playing a joke on her and has subscribed her.
She stops short of naming names but hints that the last name is Smith.
Yesterday she got a catalog from the Scooter Store.
The letter instructed her not to allow denial to continue to affect her mobility and for her to now that medicare would cover the cost of her scooter.
hee . . . hee . . . hee . . .
I’ll be trying to get on paper today words of hope and encouragement for a memorial service of a young man who took his own life.
I certainly don’t presume that any words that make it on to that paper will make it all better.
It is, however, much like a “kiss on the boo boo” – and sometimes that’s the extent of the blessing we can provide.
Here’s an interesting article about the popularity of (and potential problems with) cyber church.
I received a Ping Pong table as a birthday present last week.
One of the top ten birthday presents of all time (including the birthday present you sent me that one time).
Since there is no room in the garage right now the table is in the living room.
As you might imagine we’ve played quite a few games over the last couple of days.
Isn’t the ping-pong table in the garage a right of passage of sorts?
Very disappointed and irritated that Land of The Lost was such a horribly offensive film.
Will Ferrell has the comedic chops to carry a funny movie void of sexual obscenity and profanity but he did no such thing in this film.
And when did “PG-13″ become the old “R”?
We’re going to keep playing this moronic game (that hollywood just reflects culture doesn’t lead culture) and be “shocked” at what 13 year olds talk about and what behavior 13 year olds engage in.
Yes, it’s my choice not to watch.
Yes, we stopped watching the film – because unlike the hollywood trick of having all the bad stuff in the first part of the movie to get the rating they wanted, this film kept getting worse.
And yes, even though we bought the movie (because of the funny previews) we are throwing it away.
Wow, I sound like a cranky old man!
Speaking of cranky old men, the film Up was a delight.
Church growth secrets from Psalm 68 . . .
Let God rise up and scatter his enemies; let those who hate him run away from him.
Blow them away as smoke is driven away by the wind.
As wax melts before a fire, let the wicked be destroyed before God.
But those who do right should be glad and should rejoice before God;
they should be happy and glad. Sing to God; sing praises to his name.
Prepare the way for him who rides through the desert, whose name is the Lord.
Rejoice before him.
